On October 24th 2024, it was announced by parliament that disposable vapes will be banned from 1st of June 2025.
Effective from this date, it will be illegal to stock or sell single use disposable vapes.
The bill is still awaiting parliamentary approval, but is looking like the 2nd quarter of 2025 is the last time we will see these vapes on shelves.
This legislation introduction was confirmed by Circular Economy Minister, Mary Creagh who stated that:
Single-use vapes are extremely wasteful and blight our towns and cities.
That is why we are banning single use vapes as we end this nation’s throwaway culture.
This is the first step on the road to a circular economy, where we use resources for longer, reduce waste, accelerate the path to net-zero and create thousands of jobs across the country.
Environmental and Underage concerns are the biggest reason this change is happening. With over 1million vapes a week hitting waste disposal sites, and 1/4 of 11-15yr olds using vapes.
WHAT WILL BE CLASSED AS A DISPOSABLE VAPE?
The government have confirmed that any vape could be considered disposable if it’s:
- Not refillable by an individual user in the normal course of their use
- Not rechargeable
- Not refillable and not rechargeable
- Not able to be fitted with a replacement heating coil which is separately available and replaceable by an individual user in the normal course of their use
What this basically means, is that a vape with a non-replaceable pod, coil, and/or a non-rechargeable battery is a single-use vape and, therefore, falls under the ban.
There are still plenty of ways you can continue to enjoy your vaping, whilst helping us as an industry look after our planet.
We offer a variety of kits suitable for everyone, with changeable coils and pods meaning the device lasts longer and ultimately saves not only you money but the environment aswell.
